The POST request is used to send the data to be processed. The PUT request is used to store a resource under the request URL. The Request-URI generates the fundamental difference between the POST and PUT requests. The URI in a POST request identifies the resource that will handle the enclosed entity. The resource might be a data-accepting process, a gateway to some other protocol, or a separate entity that accepts annotations. However, the URI in a PUT request identifies the entity enclosed with the request and the user agent knows what URI is intended and the server MUST NOT attempt to apply the request to some other resource.

The Console class is used to create the instance of a console. A console is a character-based unique device that associates with a JVM. The console of a JVM is dependent upon the following two factors:

The underlying platform

The manner in which the virtual machine is invoked.

If JVM uses an interactive command line without redirecting the standard input and output streams, then its console will exist and will typically be connected to the keyboard and display from which the virtual machine was launched. If JVM starts automatically, it will typically not have a console. It may be possible that the JVM does not have any console. If JVM has a console, then it is represented by a unique instance of the Console class, which can be obtained by invoking the System.console() method.

The Comparator interface is used to sort the elements of collections and arrays. It differs from the Comparable interface in that the Comparable interface sorts the elements only in the natural order. In contrast, the Comparator interface sorts the collections and arrays in a number of different ways.

The Comparator interface has a single compare() method, which returns an integer. It has the following signature:

int Obj1.compare(Obj1, Obj2): This method compares the order of the method arguments and returns the following results:

negative if Obj1 < Obj2

positive if Obj1 > Obj2

zero if Obj1 == Obj2
equals(Object obj): This method is used to compare the equality of two objects. The objects being compared must also implement the Comparator interface.

The Comparator interface can sort only the mutually comparable objects. It cannot be used to sort primitives. Sorting elements using the Comparator interface requires building a class separate from the class whose instances are to be sorted. This is in contrast to the Comparable interface, in which case the class to be sorted itself uses the Comparable interface.

If a class Student creates two student objects. Which of the following statements are true about its constructors?

A: The compiler can call to super() in any constructor that has a call to this().
B: If a constructor is not declared in the code, a default constructor will be automatically generated by the compiler.
C: Constructors can be overridden.
D: The compiler cannot call to super() in any constructor that has a call to this()

ANSWERS:

If a constructor has a call to this(), the compiler will know that the constructor is not using the call to super(). A constructor can never have both a call to super() and a call to this() because one of these will be used as the first statement in the constructor. The compiler will not put a call to super() that is using a call to this().

If a constructor is not declared in the code, a default constructor will be automatically generated by the compiler. A constructor without any parameters is known as a default constructor. When a class is defined without any constructor, the Java compiler provides an implicit default constructor.

When the implicit default constructor of a class is invoked, it implicitly calls the no parameter constructor in the superclass. This action taken by a default constructor ensures that the inherited state of the object is initialized properly. In addition, it initializes all the instance variables in the object to the default value depending on their data type.

The default constructor of a class has the same access modifier with which the class has been declared. For example, the default constructor of a public class is implicitly given the public access. The default constructor of a protected class is implicitly given the protected access. The default constructor of a private class is implicitly given the private access. Otherwise, the default constructor has the default access implied by no access modifier.

The readLine() method belongs to the Console class. This method is used to read a line of text from the console. There are two syntaxes of the readLine() method as follows:

readLine(): This method is used to read a line of text from the console. It returns a null value if an end of stream has been reached.

public String readLine(String fmt, Object… args): This method provides a formatted prompt and then reads a line of text from the console. It returns a null value if an end of stream has been reached.

A fat client does not need continuous server communications, as it mainly communicates archival storage information to the server. It does network computer that performs the bulk of the processing in client/server applications. If applications are bandwidth intensive or require multimedia components, it is advisable to use thick clients. One of the biggest advantages of thick clients rests in the nature of some operating systems and software being unable to run on thin clients. Thick clients can handle these, as it has its own resources.

A ClassCastException is thrown when an attempt is made to cast an object, which is not of the appropriate run-time type. It extends from the RuntimeException class. It For example:

Object obj = new Vector();
String s = (String) obj;

Following are the two kinds of constructors for ClassCastException:

ClassCastException()

It will construct a ClassCastException without any detailed message.

ClassCastException(String str)

It will construct a ClassCastException with the specified detailed message.

Data type conversion is a technique of converting the data type of a variable to another data type. Two kinds of data type conversions are available in Java.

Automatic: Automatic conversion takes place when the following two conditions are fulfilled:

The two types are compatible.

The destination type is larger than the source type.

When these two conditions are met, widening conversion takes place, i.e., a narrow data type is promoted to a wider one. For example, the value of byte type will be promoted to int, as int is wider than byte in width.

Explicit: In many cases, an automatic conversion cannot be performed. For example it cannot be performed to convert int to byte, as int is wider than byte. In such cases, conversion is performed explicitly. The general form to perform such type of narrowing conversion is as follows:

(target-type) value

The package statement is used to declare packages. The word package is a keyword in Java. This statement is not technically needed to write a complete Java program. However, if it appears, it must be the first executable statement in the program. Only comments or white spaces are allowed before a package statement. There can be only one package declaration in a program. If no package declaration appears, the class will belong to the default package.

For example, the following source code file defines a class named ClassA in the package named package4:

package package4;

public class ClassA{
{
// body code
}

This source file will be saved with the name ClassA.java in the directory named package4.

Static methods are those methods that are declared with the keyword static as modifier are called static methods or class methods. It affects a class as a whole, not a particular instance of the class. These methods are always invoked without reference to a particular instance of a class. The static method suffers from the following restrictions:

A static method can only call other static methods.

A static method must only access static data.

A static method cannot reference to the current object using keywords super or this.

The java.util.EnumSet set is a special purpose set. It is used to provide an implementation for better performance for enum types. It is necessray that the elements in an enum set must come from a single enum type that is specified, explicitly or implicitly, when the set is created. They are represented internally as bit vectors. This representation is extremely compact and efficient.

The space and time performance of this class should be good enough to allow its use as a high-quality, type safe alternative to traditional int-based “bit flags.” Bulk operations should run very quickly if the specified collection is also an enum set. It is not synchronized and if multiple threads access an enum set concurrently, and at least one of the threads modifies the set, it should be synchronized externally. It is typically accomplished by synchronizing on some object that naturally encapsulates the enum set.
